Buxom released a line of Lip Foundations earlier this spring. Since they've finally hit my Sephora, I thought I'd actually check them out!
Meant to be worn alone or as a base for gloss, these lip foundations are a bit unusual. Call them a lipstick, primer or what you will, these serve a very specific purpose and could be kind of genius. Naked is the new black, so it only makes sense that you need a way to perfect your naked lips, while extending the wear time of your glosses.
While I had a tricky time finding one to match my lip shade, here is how they should work (none matched my pale, but not that pale, lip). You start by picking the color that is the closest to matching your natural lip color. Then apply the lipstick, making sure to follow your lip line precisely. These colors don't budge, so try to get it right the first time. If you can't find a color that works, they do offer a colorless option, Naked, that seems to be slightly more hydrating.
Let the color set for a few seconds and apply a gloss on top. Your gloss will stay longer, your lips will look absolutely perfect and you'll wonder how you ever lived this long without a lip foundation. In theory, that is.
I found the colors to be a little on the dry side. I know a gloss will hydrate your lips to some degree; or at least give the appearance your lips are hydrated. These colors don't budge, move or migrate, probably because they are so lacking in moisture. There is no denying your lip gloss will last longer and your lips will look like the pout on a camera-ready model. But the dry texture of the lippie makes me wonder if I don't use the entire tube right NOW if it will still be usable by the fall. Considering all of the cream liners and shadows I currently have drying out in my collection this minute, I can only imagine the shelf life of these has to be considerably less than the usual lipcolor.
However, if a color matches you and you live in nude gloss, you'll probably love these. Just don't forget to apply a really nice lip treatment at night to make it up to your pucker (I love this one).
These are exclusive to Sephora and retail for $19 each. Let me know if you've tried them! I'd love to know how they worked for you.
