Buxom® True Nude Lip Foundation + Swatches

Affiliate links.

Buxom released a line of Lip Foundations earlier this spring. Since they've finally hit my Sephora, I thought I'd actually check them out!

Meant to be worn alone or as a base for gloss, these lip foundations are a bit unusual. Call them a lipstick, primer or what you will, these serve a very specific purpose and could be kind of genius. Naked is the new black, so it only makes sense that you need a way to perfect your naked lips, while extending the wear time of your glosses.

While I had a tricky time finding one to match my lip shade, here is how they should work (none matched my pale, but not that pale, lip). You start by picking the color that is the closest to matching your natural lip color. Then apply the lipstick, making sure to follow your lip line precisely. These colors don't budge, so try to get it right the first time. If you can't find a color that works, they do offer a colorless option, Naked, that seems to be slightly more hydrating.

Let the color set for a few seconds and apply a gloss on top. Your gloss will stay longer, your lips will look absolutely perfect and you'll wonder how you ever lived this long without a lip foundation. In theory, that is.

I found the colors to be a little on the dry side. I know a gloss will hydrate your lips to some degree; or at least give the appearance your lips are hydrated. These colors don't budge, move or migrate, probably because they are so lacking in moisture. There is no denying your lip gloss will last longer and your lips will look like the pout on a camera-ready model. But the dry texture of the lippie makes me wonder if I don't use the entire tube right NOW if it will still be usable by the fall. Considering all of the cream liners and shadows I currently have drying out in my collection this minute, I can only imagine the shelf life of these has to be considerably less than the usual lipcolor.

However, if a color matches you and you live in nude gloss, you'll probably love these. Just don't forget to apply a really nice lip treatment at night to make it up to your pucker (I love this one).

These are exclusive to Sephora and retail for $19 each. Let me know if you've tried them! I'd love to know how they worked for you.

What is Making My Face Itch This Summer?

Sent for review. Affiliate Links. Purchased by me.

If you are anything like me, in the warmer months, your face starts to sting and itch. It feels like a thousand tiny, annoying bees attacking your skin. Touching your skin makes it worse. Sometimes, even after you wash your skin, your face still stings and itches. The solution is really easy, but you may not like it.

It's (most likely) your foundation*. Many foundations contain an ingredient called Bismuth Oxychloride and it's what gives your powders and foundations that dewy glow and helps your powder stick to the skin. It's a known irritant to many people, but usually only causes a problem in hot weather. Bismuth is the reason Bare Minerals created their "Matte" powder foundation years ago. You can be sensitive to bismuth and get away with wearing it most months during the year. However, when the temperatures spike, bismuth can really, really become a problem!

Mica, which is similar to bismuth,  can also cause the stinging sensation. If your foundation is bothering you, but primarily in warmer weather, one of these ingredients is likely to be the cause!

So what do you do? Easy. Stop wearing it. I know, you love the glow but irritating your skin is never a good idea. Baby your skin for a few days. Avoid harsh chemicals, acids and retinols. If you really need a little more help, pick up  Skin Transformer Miracle Balm. It really works for me whenever my skin flares up. My skin is flaring up as I type and applying the Skin Transformer Miracle Balm relieved my skin on contact. It doesn't feel perfect just yet (it's been 25 seconds) but it's so much better. Thirty minutes later, it's so much better. If irritation flares up, this is what you'll want to settle things down.

*I'm no doctor. So if you have a rash, swelling or anything that Blue Star Ointment cures, see a doctor. If you wear foundation with bismuth oxychloride, try ditching that first.

Love: FingerPaints Gel Polish

Purchased by me. Affiliate links.

I stopped by Sally Beauty to pick up some Clairol Shimmer Lights for my newly blond hair and couldn't resist grabbing some new gel polishes from FingerPaints. I picked up Charcoal Drawing as well as Fine Arts Auction, which may be my new favorite color.

I've only been wearing it for a few days, but it's a duo-chrome that leans bronze and violet with a touch of iridescent blue and green sparkle. When I applied the polish, it didn't creep away from the edges the way so many gel polishes tend to do. While I used the base and top coat from another gel manicure set (along with the light), it seems to have worked perfectly. However, I'm told by nail-aholics that theFingerPaints base is amazing.

Are you doing a gel at home or still going to the salon? What's your favorite gel polish?

Pick up any of the wide assortment of colors from Sally's Beauty for $10.99/$9.99.
