Buxom® True Nude Lip Foundation + Swatches

Affiliate links.

Buxom released a line of Lip Foundations earlier this spring. Since they've finally hit my Sephora, I thought I'd actually check them out!

Meant to be worn alone or as a base for gloss, these lip foundations are a bit unusual. Call them a lipstick, primer or what you will, these serve a very specific purpose and could be kind of genius. Naked is the new black, so it only makes sense that you need a way to perfect your naked lips, while extending the wear time of your glosses.

While I had a tricky time finding one to match my lip shade, here is how they should work (none matched my pale, but not that pale, lip). You start by picking the color that is the closest to matching your natural lip color. Then apply the lipstick, making sure to follow your lip line precisely. These colors don't budge, so try to get it right the first time. If you can't find a color that works, they do offer a colorless option, Naked, that seems to be slightly more hydrating.

Let the color set for a few seconds and apply a gloss on top. Your gloss will stay longer, your lips will look absolutely perfect and you'll wonder how you ever lived this long without a lip foundation. In theory, that is.

I found the colors to be a little on the dry side. I know a gloss will hydrate your lips to some degree; or at least give the appearance your lips are hydrated. These colors don't budge, move or migrate, probably because they are so lacking in moisture. There is no denying your lip gloss will last longer and your lips will look like the pout on a camera-ready model. But the dry texture of the lippie makes me wonder if I don't use the entire tube right NOW if it will still be usable by the fall. Considering all of the cream liners and shadows I currently have drying out in my collection this minute, I can only imagine the shelf life of these has to be considerably less than the usual lipcolor.

However, if a color matches you and you live in nude gloss, you'll probably love these. Just don't forget to apply a really nice lip treatment at night to make it up to your pucker (I love this one).

These are exclusive to Sephora and retail for $19 each. Let me know if you've tried them! I'd love to know how they worked for you.

What is Making My Face Itch This Summer?

Sent for review. Affiliate Links. Purchased by me.

If you are anything like me, in the warmer months, your face starts to sting and itch. It feels like a thousand tiny, annoying bees attacking your skin. Touching your skin makes it worse. Sometimes, even after you wash your skin, your face still stings and itches. The solution is really easy, but you may not like it.

It's (most likely) your foundation*. Many foundations contain an ingredient called Bismuth Oxychloride and it's what gives your powders and foundations that dewy glow and helps your powder stick to the skin. It's a known irritant to many people, but usually only causes a problem in hot weather. Bismuth is the reason Bare Minerals created their "Matte" powder foundation years ago. You can be sensitive to bismuth and get away with wearing it most months during the year. However, when the temperatures spike, bismuth can really, really become a problem!

Mica, which is similar to bismuth,  can also cause the stinging sensation. If your foundation is bothering you, but primarily in warmer weather, one of these ingredients is likely to be the cause!

So what do you do? Easy. Stop wearing it. I know, you love the glow but irritating your skin is never a good idea. Baby your skin for a few days. Avoid harsh chemicals, acids and retinols. If you really need a little more help, pick up  Skin Transformer Miracle Balm. It really works for me whenever my skin flares up. My skin is flaring up as I type and applying the Skin Transformer Miracle Balm relieved my skin on contact. It doesn't feel perfect just yet (it's been 25 seconds) but it's so much better. Thirty minutes later, it's so much better. If irritation flares up, this is what you'll want to settle things down.

*I'm no doctor. So if you have a rash, swelling or anything that Blue Star Ointment cures, see a doctor. If you wear foundation with bismuth oxychloride, try ditching that first.

Love: FingerPaints Gel Polish

Purchased by me. Affiliate links.

I stopped by Sally Beauty to pick up some Clairol Shimmer Lights for my newly blond hair and couldn't resist grabbing some new gel polishes from FingerPaints. I picked up Charcoal Drawing as well as Fine Arts Auction, which may be my new favorite color.

I've only been wearing it for a few days, but it's a duo-chrome that leans bronze and violet with a touch of iridescent blue and green sparkle. When I applied the polish, it didn't creep away from the edges the way so many gel polishes tend to do. While I used the base and top coat from another gel manicure set (along with the light), it seems to have worked perfectly. However, I'm told by nail-aholics that theFingerPaints base is amazing.

Are you doing a gel at home or still going to the salon? What's your favorite gel polish?

Pick up any of the wide assortment of colors from Sally's Beauty for $10.99/$9.99.

SPONSORED: Five Uses for Klorane Non-Aersol Dry Shampoo With Oat Milk

Sponsored

Klorane's Non-Aerosol Dry Shampoo has long been one of my favorites. Sure it's formulated with softening oat extract and oil-absorbing polysaccharides to clean hair without water in a matter of minutes, but it does so much more.

Since it's non-aerosol and you control how much you use, it's one of those products that you should carry with you at all times. Before we talk about uses, let's discuss how the product actually works. You open the product by twisting the top of the bottle to clockwise. You then squeeze the bottle to release product in a puff of air. Squeeze fast and hard for a quick burst or slower and softer for a gentle puff. Now that we have that out of the way, here are five uses for Klorane's Non-Aersol Dry Shampoo.

1. Obviously, use it to control the oil and dirt in your hair. Apply the powder to roots, massage into the hair and thoroughly brush your hair. You'll want to make sure none of the white is showing, so be sure to brush your hair really well!

2. Clean hair isn't always best. When you want to do a voluminous updo or even a pretty pony, sometimes you need a little extra "grip". This dry shampoo is perfect for those times. Because there are no chemicals related to an aerosol, the product isn't sticky or hard to work with. You can apply it to the roots for added volume or in sections of hair where you need a little extra grip. Because it is white, be careful not to use too much and only apply to the bottom layers of hair. Think of this dry shampoo as a hard working foundation garment.

3. In a pinch, this powder also helps feet from slipping and chafing in new shoes. Just apply a little powder to the affected areas and boom! No more chafing or slipping.

4. If TMI is not something you're interested in, turn away now. If you are a big breasted woman, pay attention. For days where things might get a little moist (you know what I'm talking about), this is a great quick way to prevent it. A little goes a long way, so squeeze gently.

5. This also works temporary wonders if you find yourself in the midst of some painful chub rub. It happens, so let's not pretend it doesn't. If your thighs touch a little too much and start to cause a little (LOT!) of discomfort, this gentle powder will help soothe the chaffe as well as create a little bit of "slip" so you won't have to slow down one bit.

How have you used this dry shampoo? Any fun uses I don't know about? Share your secrets in the comments!

Heat Making You Feel Sick? Try This!

Purchased by Me Sent For Review

Three ways to avoid melting this summer
No one hates the heat more than me. When it tops 85 degrees, I start to actually feel sick. Over 90 and going outside instantly gives me a rash. When it's hot like it is this week, I get a headache, I feel nauseous and almost like I'm getting the flu. One of these days, I'll move to Maine (Hey VIA, you've never met a broadcast producer like me. I like your weather, let's be friends! ). Until then, these items will remain in my icebox, always at the ready.

How to stay cool in the heat

Avene Thermal Spray is an atomizer that mists your face with healing waters from Avene, France. The water is pH balanced to calm skin and has low amounts of drying minerals like salts. Skin is kept calm, cool and balanced. People travel from all over the world for the chance for this water to help heal them. While traveling is fun, keep a bottle with you for when you need a pick me up, to cool down or soothe hot, irritated skin.

How to Stay Cool in the heat
Hot Girls Pearls are large faux pearls filled with a nontoxic cooling gel that get arctic cold in the freezer. Keep one around your neck and one around your wrist to take down your body temperature. They even make earrings! Pearls are available in a traditional white or steely gray color and range in price from $35-65. While these won't last a full day, if you are forced to be outside for an hour or two, these will do the trick. They are also great for hot flashes. (Which means they make an elegant and handy gift for Moms!)

How to stay cool in the heat

I raved about this last idea a few years ago when a hurricane or sharknado or derecho or whatever stole our power for a week. This Hansderma Facial Roller is a perfect way to cool down skin, help flush out toxins and slim your jawline. Roll it along pressure points on your wrists, neck and even the bottoms of your feet (wash it afterwards, please) to cool down your entire body. I love the metal version, but the plastic will work just as well.

What is your secret to staying cool? I'm eying up Portland, Maine. You?

Review of bareMinerals Lash Domination and Locked & Coated.
bareMinerals just launched a new mascara. Lash Domination mascara includes a twisted brush that helps to coat each and every lash, while giving you nice length.

Review of bareMinerals Lash Domination and Locked & Coated.

I've only been wearing it for a few days, but I haven't experienced any fallout, flakes or smudges. But I also haven't worn it to the gym (no surprise there). So for your standard, daily wear, this stuff delivers without the mess.

This is making my lashes look way longer than they actually are, which is one of my favorite things in the world. Pick it up for $18.

Check out the before and after pictures. LOVE.

Also new from bareMinerals is the genius Locked & Coated. It turns any mascara into a waterproof mascara!

Review of bareMinerals Lash Domination and Locked & Coated

We all know that the waterproof mascaras straight out of the tube leave lashes less than desirable. Sticky, super straight, thick, drying and all-over-meh don't leave me longing to use them. However, this new product is a little different. Apply your mascara as you normally would and let it dry. Then coat lashes with Locked & Coated and allow them to dry. This topcoat is totally clear and not heavy on the lashes at all. Boom! Waterproof lashes. It's that easy (and it retails for $12!).

Pick up either (or both!) of these wherever bareMinerals is sold.
